Claude Roberge
Claude Roberge was born in 1928 in Bernierville, Quebec, Canada. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1948. In 1956 he was sent to Japan, where he still lives.
From 1966 to 2002 he taught French, French Phonetics, and Psycholinguistics at Sophia University in Tokyo. At the same university he was the Director of Research Center for Hearing and Speech Disorders from 1978 to 1996, and the Director of Graduate School of Foreign Languages and Linguistics from 1989 to 1993. He became Professor Emeritus in 1998. From 1998 to 2003 he was the Director of Center for Speech and Hearing Disorders at Kanto Gakuen University.
Claude Roberge published over 100 research papers about the verbotonal method, and 30 monographs, most of them in the Japanese language.
He is one the world's leading authorities on the verbotonal method. He was a close associate and friend of Petar Guberina, the founder of the verbotonal method. Professor Roberge edited the French, Japanese, and English editions of the works by Petar Guberina. The book was also published in Croatian and Spanish.
